LIN Chunlong is a Partner in the International Arbitration, Shipping, International Trade & Commodities Disputes, Asset Recovery & International Enforcement, Commercial & Corporate Disputes Practices. 

Chunlong has extensive experience advising clients on complex, high-value disputes across the shipbuilding, commodities, and corporate sectors. He has represented shipowners, shipyards, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals in a wide range of contentious matters. 

He has expertise in shipbuilding contract disputes, including claims arising from vessel defects, construction delays, refund guarantee enforcement, and wrongful rejection or termination of shipbuilding contracts. His work in the commodities space includes disputes involving the sale and purchase of bulk commodities.

Beyond his shipping and commodities practice, Chunlong regularly acts for corporations and high-net-worth individuals in commercial and corporate disputes. He has significant experience in minority oppression claims, advising shareholders on the full spectrum of remedies available where their interests have been unfairly prejudiced or disregarded. His corporate disputes practice also encompasses shareholder disagreements, breach of directors’ duties, and other complex intra-company conflicts.

Chunlong is also well regarded for his expertise in asset recovery and enforcement work. He advises clients on strategies to trace, preserve, and recover assets across multiple jurisdictions, including the obtaining of interim relief such as injunctions and freezing orders. His asset recovery practice extends to crypto assets, where he has advised clients on the tracing and recovery of digital assets, including obtaining court orders against exchanges and wallet operators. He has experience enforcing arbitral awards and court judgments and is adept at navigating the procedural and tactical complexities that often arise in cross-border enforcement proceedings.

Chunlong regularly appears before the Singapore Courts as well as in international arbitration proceedings, including matters before the SIAC and ICC.

Chunlong graduated from the Singapore Management University and is admitted to the Singapore Bar. He was also an instructor for the Pre-Trial Practice in Civil Litigation course at the Singapore Management University.

Matters of significance in which Chunlong has been involved in include advising/ acting for the following:

  • A ship building and marine engineering solutions company in LMAA arbitrations seated in London concerning disputes over the termination of a shipbuilding contract.
  • A leading shipbuilding company in disputes arising from the suspension of various contracts for the supply of equipment for the construction of a semisubmersible drilling rig.
  • An oil and gas company in setting aside an interim injunction to prevent payment under a bank guarantee and in resisting an application for various injunction orders. The disputes arose in relation to a contract for the design, manufacture and supply of equipment for the construction of an oil refining complex.  
  • A Hong Kong subsidiary of a major Chinese state-owned mining company against a Hong Kong subsidiary of a Chinese conglomerate in multiple SIAC arbitrations, in respect of disputes arising out of international sale contracts for oil products amounting to a total claim of over US$138 million. These arbitral proceedings have implications for other similar contracts, the total potential value of which exceeds US$1.3 billion, and implications for parallel proceedings commenced in Hong Kong.
  • The successful applicant in Kho Choon Keng v Lian Keng Enterprises Pte Ltd (Kho Patrick and another, non-parties) [2024] SGHC 191 in an application to wind up a company with extensive business interests pursuant to sections 125(1)(i) of the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018. 
  • The 1st Defendant in Kotagaralahalli Peddappaiah Nagaraja v Moussa Salem and others [2023] SGHC 6 in successfully resisting a claim brought by the Plaintiff for shares in a Singapore-incorporated company.
